What I would propose is outlawing the influx of private money into voting districts and precincts.
Didn't you used to be a Republican?
R's were the guys who were against welfare, for example, but in favor of private charity. Putting private money into disadvantaged neighbors was a good thing, a godly thing, even. What about private money to pay for schools? Put schools in disadvantaged neighborhoods to save the communities from public schools. That's a very good thing. Small government supplemented by generous private money. Communities where there are few and crowded polling places if any at all? Private money can supplement the meager budgets of poor neighborhoods.
Have you totally given up the notion of private funding rather than big government? Hmmm.
For that, I would propose a ten-year exemption for the NYT, WaPo, all cable news channels, and selected other news papers, from the First Amendment protections they enjoy as part of the Fourth Estate.
Weren't you just fussing at me about killing free speech? Besides, wouldn't that be cancel culture? What happened to you? |
