No. The objective is to protect it. And to prevent the theft. Not to just have alarm bells go off when it happens.

>> It would be cost prohibitive to design it so that no one's power ever went out.

Of course. This is where people talk about paying for the "9's" for uptime cost vs benefit: 0.9%, 0.99%, 0.999%, 0.9999% etc. Each 9 you add becomes more expensive until it is infeasible to pay for the next 9.

I'm not sure the comparison is apt but I get your meaning. (Not sure mine is, either).

The cost to secure the election need not be high, unless it is under attack as it was in Mar-Nov of last year.

We can't fix what was done. All we can do is to try to prevent it from happening again. That begins with making Democrats aware of what was done; because not one of you here understands and believes that anything wrong was done, AFAIK. This is not something we can just look away from if we are to maintain any semblance of the democratic form.

I'm sorry that so many were off track for so long on how it was stolen. That is a product a failed news media which is complicit, and I think surely, you cannot possibly deny that -- a whole other aspect of the election theft that is just an unprecedented event since the first days of the national existence. And it persists even now (although, a couple media outlets are becoming more assertive. I don't know where we'd be without Fox asking real, actual questions.

>> That's why I considered the feds forcing a review for best practices. That's not the same thing as making the system absolutely bulletproof because otherwise the only people who would get to vote would be those whose families had been in town for at least three generations and were personally known to and highly regarded by election officials and who were able to personally present themselves to said officials at the the polls on election day. AKA voter suppression.

I just hope at some point there will be investigations by media; they don't want to be the ones who call a president illegitimate and I understand that (apparently, they all have to work in concert as they did with Trump to have the backbone for that). But it is a systemic failure that was unanticipated. No one would ever have expected the entire news media to just lay down its pens in support of this clearly inept president Biden. It is bizarre and I would love to be around when the history is written.
