I checked the chipmerchant and the 16mb SDRAM is $44 and the 32mb is $70. If one were to take an average it would show $144 for 24 for 16mb chips which equates to $6 per chip not including processing.

I am not sure what those costs might be, but my previous experience in PCB manufacturing and testing would say to you...it is surprisingly cheap in high volume. But I will give you $10 per module and deduct $20 from the $144 for the two boards.

This yields 124/24 = $5.16 per 16mbit chip. And Smiths, AICE and others are showing $4.00 to $4.25...therefore there is still markup in these modules.

But I would stress that even this simple analysis in not very scientific, but at least shows SDRAM is pretty much where the Quoted prices are indicating.
