Under Compaq' headlines, Compaq CEO states they are looking to buy a "communications company". Orckit would be a takeover target. Wonder what price Compaq would need to pay in order to make the offer work for Orckit's management since they own 65% of outstanding shares? The substantial volume today would appear to indicate that the shares are being vigorously supported at this level. Orckit's ADSL would be a "steal" by TI as well if they made an offer. TI estimates the XDSL market to be $50 billion in less than ten years according to Gilder Technology letter. It seems that ADSL would comprise a substantial portion of the XDSL given it's qualities, capabilities. If Compaq is making overtures to Orckit, I wonder how long it would take Orckit to consider their offer, if any?
