Sinai War in Israel, [20] was an invasion of Egypt in late 1956 by Israel, followed by the United Kingdom and France. The aims were to regain Western control of the Suez Canal and to remove Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser, who had just nationalised the canal. [21] After the fighting had started, political pressure from the United States, the Soviet Union and the United Nations led to a withdrawal by the three invaders. The episode humiliated the United Kingdom and France and strengthened Nasser.

So, both the USSR and the US took time out of the Cold War to threaten the 3 nations who wanted to restore Western control over the Suez Canal. Similarly, there was huge international pressure during every single conflict.

You call USSR a gas station with nukes. In this sense, until at least the mid 90’s Israel, with all respect, was an orange grove with a decent military. Look at 1973. Within days, they needed supplies from the US. Their supply chain had no depth.

There was no way they could stand up to international threats - AND to 400 million Arabs.

Also, contrary to popular propaganda, they’re not mass killers. Any Israeli government discovered taking inexcusably brutal measures would get thrown out ASAP.

So, they have to arrive to some sort of peace - eventually. Trump gave proof that this is possible.
