The plan was not perfect and took an enormous effort to pass because of REPUBLICAN OBSTRUCTION.

The first step in the creation of Obamacare --- before negotiations began with Congress --- was Obama meeting in secret with the drug companies and promising them that they would get to keep their fat profits. It was exactly like when Cheney secretly met with the energy companies after Bush was elected, except in that case the media and liberals raised a big fuss.
