A bit more on car nav . . .
Per Electronic Times of January 26, TRMB has the "reference design" for GPS in Auto PC (if my memory serves me correctly, this is the goal Charles Trimble mentioned in the cellular arena -- it looks like he's on his way now in car nav). Aftermarketers for AutoPC now include Clarion, Alpine, Daewoo Telecom (parent of competing Datus, I believe), Samsung, Hyundai, IAV (Germany) and Magneti Marelli (Italy). OEM support from Nissan (in US), Hyundai, Peugeot, Citroen, and VW. Not surprisingly, the article stated "The potential market for Trimble as the dominant GPS supplier on the back of the Microsoft design is huge," citing that old GPS council $3 billion figure for the year 2000.
My recheck of the Intel Connected Car PC didn't turn up a GPS description -- in line with the IR comment. If true, Microsoft/Trimble has a major headstart here.

PS -- I appreciate the support earlier today from everyone. |
