Good post Sowbug. Bits & Pieces from the wire: Investor enthusiansm surrounding the recent initial public offering of Verisign.Inc. showed little sign of waning, as the stock continued to climb Mon. The Mountainview Calf. company provides digital certificate systems that ensure secure transactions over the Internet. The offering, which was oversubscribed by 25 times, has kindled memories of other high-flying IPOs in the Internet sector, including Netscape. Investors see this as an "event deal" that only comes around once in a while, said one person familiar with the company. "As e-commerce takes off, these guys are definitely going to be players." The same person said investors also may have been drawn to the company by its strategic relationships, including those with Microsoft, Visa International & Intel. But, Verisign isn't alone in the digital certificate arena. According to people familiar with the industry, IBM,NT & GTE all have a hand in the business. |
