Dave, a Ms. McKay, Bear Stearns analyst, just now on CNBC, addressed the effect of y2k on bottom lines. Pointed out that remedial cost must be expensed. Therefore cost has a direct effect on net. She sees market not reflecting this until second-half.

Someone neglected to tell Filene's Basement..

Filene's Basement Corp. (BSMT): The specialty-store chain
said it expects an operating loss for its fiscal fourth quarter
ending Jan. 31 because of a $7.6 million charge for ''Year 2000
Compliance'' and a $3.0 million charge. Filene's fell 1/8 to 4
11/32.
