Busy discussions can create a lot of messages.
If you look at thread you follow the message count in SubjectMarks shows you a number.
That is the number of unread messages you have in that discussion.

As you are reading those messages you can at any message use the "Mark as Last Read"
When you do the number beside the SubjectMark will change to reflect your choice.
I look at this thread and see 1 unread message.
If I choose a message further down the discussion using Mark as Last Read the number changes.
If I go to post one on this thread and use Mark as Last Read, here is what happens.



I don't have to read them all again to reset the counter, but I could.
When you next click on that SubjectMark you will be automatically taken to the Mark as Last Read post.
This is a very handy feature for reading a long thread.
