One time when visiting Tobago i together with my then girlfriend and now wife met a bunch of hemp-smoking hoods on an isolated beach. We drove there on our open jeep. They approached us and started in w/ “what are you doing here?” Before we drove off we shared w/ them drinks and stories of places faraway. All good. Later I was told TnT was and is the murder capital of the Caribbean due to drug transit and use. Whilst in S Africa we had no car as I planned to depend on Uber given intended length of trip and did not bother to renew my international drivers license. There was no Uber during lockdown. But for the kindness of strangers we would have been in deep trouble africa. All good because of S Africans. We tried to buy wine and could not, as was against the law. The wine owner just gave it to us, refusing to take payment. The plumper brought us game he shot. Etc etc. Brilliant people.
