I wonder also about the strength of early conditioning. The Catholics say "Give us a child until he is seven, and we'll have him for eternity." (or something like that). When a belief is drilled into someone from childhood on, the way so many religions are, even though there tends to be a period of questioning and rebellion with adolescence, often there is an inability to completely and irrevocably deny the existence of whatever was instilled by that early conditioning. Later there is a return to the original belief structure maybe modified or altered but still resembling in some way the original, as if something has to fill that space. I'm making this up as I go. Can you tell?
