An important Chinese objective is to discourage India from cooperating with the American-sponsored “Quad” (with Australia and Japan) to contain China. If Iran orients towards a Turkish-Pakistani entente, as Chinese strategists project, India will be isolated. India has tried to improve relations with Shiite Iran as a counterweight to Sunni Pakistan.
...and since Russia has been pushed into a long term detente with China, India will be even more reluctant to join any anti-China blocks.

It’s a busy, rapidly changing world. Our foggy bottom deep thinkers better stop kissing each other’s butts and play follow the [clueless] leader - and start developing a serious and constructive foreign policy which would be in the long term interests of the United States.
