The Republican Party was defeated. They absolutely were not in any way an organizing influence.

From your lips to God's ears...

Trump certainly believed there was no way he was coming out the other side as president.

Then why was he persistently still imploring the R-team to fight on?

What was the "effort" to stop the certification? There was no such effort of any substantive nature.

Pence was still under the gun right up to the end. And Trump is still mad at him for having let the movement down.

Just because something didn't work doesn't mean they didn't go all out and hang in to the bitter end. Some still haven't acknowledge the end.

How was it to have proceeded from protests to an actual "overthrow" (of a future president, somehow)?

You've got the cart before the horse. Most of the effort preceded January 6. They were already in last-ditch territory by than. Most of it occurred in Pennsylvania and Arizona and Pennsylvania and Georgia. You're still too focused on the events of that day. That was just the gaudy last hurrah. There were lots of innings before that one.

I would point out that in his speech he called for peaceful protests.

Like I said...

You think it was an insurrection why? Because MSNBC calls it that 100s of times daily (effectively, brain-washing), because WaPo and NYT called it that.

I was calling "sedition" and "coup" well before the storming of the Capitol. "Insurrection is just part of that concept's set of words. I would suggest that you read back on the thread but you don't even read the contemporaneous posts very closely.
