Yes, in Richmond I saw hundreds of kids, and many of them gang members saved by Contra Costa college. It was the college the poor kids went to. And most did fine and went on to transfer to state colleges or universities.

I went to a "junior college", state college and major university.

I saw no appreciable difference in the instructors, or students for that matter. What I saw at the U of Washington were a lot of "over achievers".

The teachers I had at the community college were great, and by and large just as good as the ones at the U of Washington, and the one's I had in the philosophy Department at San Jose State were super good.

They taught me about the great Greeks and gave me a good introduction to existentialism.

But here is the crux of the problem. A recent study done at Stanford and Columbia with rich kids and poor kids found that by the time the rich kid was five entering kindergarten, the poor kid was only operating at three intellectually.

Then they went back to see what the variables were and it was the amount of words spoken in the home.

So the best thing we could do is free pre school for every kid and that would allow the poor kids and even playing field when entering kindergarten.

Imagine how any kid would feel if the other kids were two years ahead of them at five. They would think they are dumb, like I did.

I put both my kids in Montessori at about three and sure enough by the time they entered kindergarten one kid they wanted to skip one grade and the other two grades. We let them skip one kid, one grade as she had a verbal vocabulary of 12 when she was five.

Probably because her dad talks so much-lol.

I wish Obama had realized how much he could have done for the poor kids and especially poor minorities if he had used his honey moon to fund free pre school for every kid.
