Gary,
In reviewing again the NN press release, I'm wondering if it isn't possible that ASND has indeed picked up market share at the expense of NN.
The NN release states:
Order intake for ATM equipment, driven principally by the MainStreetXpress(TM) 36170 Multiservices Switch, is expected to more than double the level achieved in the corresponding quarter last year.
While NN/ATM sales doubled over a one year period (from 4Q96 to 4Q97), we know from the last ASND conference call that ASND/ATM sales almost doubled (they were up 75%) in just a three (3) month period (from 3Q97 to 4Q97).
So, it is indeed possible that ASND gained market share in ATM at the expense, to some degree, of NN. (As some support for this view, I recall that, at the Scottsdale Morgan Stanley conference, it was stated by ASND mgmt that ASND had gained market share in ATM during the 4Q97, though they could point to no specific industry study for proof of this belief. Rather, Ejabat seemed to be confident of the gain based upon the "wins" that they had achieved).
