"Even as the finance world has embraced cryptocurrencies and pumped up their prices, they’ve struggled to shake their reputation as a tool allowing thieves and drug dealers to hide illegal transactions. Some crypto advocates say disabusing regulators of that perception is the biggest challenge virtual assets face."

I bet if you test a one hundred dollar bill for drug residues... you will find them... but, if you test a bitcoin for drug residues... you won't ?

If the crypto guys think BS about any currency enabling illicit use by its existence is "the biggest challenge" ? Suggests they're doing too many drugs.

The drug trade doesn't exist outside it being enabled... by people with money... who operate above the law with protection enabled by it and who are not made subjects of it... which is as true today as it was in Vietnam during the Vietnam War... in Afghanistan, always... as in China during the Opium Wars... or as was true here until very recently in the unobstructed shipping of masses of Fentanyl from China.

The "biggest challenge" has nothing to do with money being useful in the drug trade...

The "biggest challenge" is money being used (outside their drug trades) to extract payment of TAXES...

The only thing they take more seriously than the ill gotten profits from illicit businesses... is the direct takings of tribute in the form of taxes...
