Lauren---It occurred to me that UMSI invested in a company in France. Has anyone looked into that?
CLEARWATER, Fla., Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Universal Medical Systems, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: UMSI), announced today it had reached an Agreement to acquire Imaging Products International, Inc. (IPI), located in Chantilly, Virginia, and SAMBA, a Division of Unilog, located in Paris, France. The effective date for final closing of the acquisition is 9/30/97, subject to board approval by UMSI. In making this announcement, Mike Baker, President of UMSI, stated that this is another in a series of planned acquisitions of medical systems companies. Both IPI and SAMBA are engaged in the development, production, and marketing of proprietary cell analysis systems. These systems provide a pathologist with the ability to improve diagnosis of biopsies through the use of digital cameras with features to enhance, magnify, and transmit images to any location. The system also enables the pathologist to perform a detailed analysis of the images. Baker also stated that a major feature of the acquisition is the synergism these telepathology systems provide to the current UMSI product base. The development program for UMSI's Optical Imaging System for the early detection of cancer can now be accelerated using many of the hardware and software features of the acquired systems. Stevens Avery, President of IPI, stated that combined sales of IPI and SAMBA exceeded $2.0 million over the past 12 months, and with increased marketing and financial support to be furnished by UMSI, a substantial increase in sales can be expected in the near future for current and newly developed systems. More than 50 systems have lready been installed at various locations, including the National Institute of Health, Johns Hopkins, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. An average system price is $75,000. UMSI, which trades under the OTC symbol "UMSI" is a leader in the development of high-technology medical diagnostic and treatment systems for its targeted markets. What about that Imaging company in France? can you get in contact with it? Seems that according to this particular announcement that there are a great deal of people involved in this company than just Baker and Zani and old what-his-name.
