In a system where every transaction has an intermediary... taxing the intermediaries could work... and eliminate all of the inherent corruption and bother of taxing anything else... But, in a system where disintermediation has eliminated the need for intermediaries... as themselves "dead weight" contributing nothing of value to society... but imposing large costs... while exploiting their position to ensure corruption is all that matters ?
