It is fairly clear that the virus is on its way to being endemic in many parts, if not most, of the world. I would expect that new vaccine formulations will be necessary on an annual basis.

Since the virus is out of control in India and Brazil the chance of even worse variants showing up is likely increasing. One can hope that the biotechnology folks will be able to keep up with this, but I doubt that the world's politicians will be able to keep satisfy the demands of their citizens for a desired return to their pre-pandemic world.

Good chance that Goldilocks and Pollyanna will be road kill.
