As I have mentioned a few times in the past. Microsoft biggest problem historically "legacy support" or maintaining OS compatibility with old hardware and software. There have teams there who spend days and days testing trying their best to try to continue supporting old printers, scanners etc and still move software forward. moving to 64 bit was a big milestone

Make older apps or programs compatible with Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

That is why Apple has always had an advantage they generally didn't care, they have often changed directions on a dime and left users hanging. But with that they could advance their innovations faster than Microsoft.

Interesting both companies dramatically changed their major revenue stream away from their once core business to continue to grow.
