Hi Jim:

I'm currently working for DEC (as a contractor) here in New England. Reaction from the troops on the buyout is mixed with most leaning in the favorable direction.

As I'm sure you're aware, DEC has long been one of the major employers in the Mass, N.H. region and consequently it's ups and downs have had major effects on local economies. I've heard a lot of the local yokels (i.e. restaurant owners etc.) reminiscing about DEC's heyday in the mid eighties. There were even DEC bars where employees hung out. Now there's a sense of melancholy that the former number two computer manufacturer in the world has fallen so far. Regarding what you said:

"Personally I feel Compaq purchased DEC to get it's hands on the Alpha Processor, with the latest speed of 500Mhz. Alpha can do great things in the Server Market."

I think you might be correct...

Bob
