I don't believe that a market maker can legally borrow your street name shares out of an IRA, however, after reading some of the very knowledgeable replies on this thread, I believe that the only way one can be sure is to hold the shares in their name. I don't trust any of the institutions as GREED is proving to be a stronger force, especially when only confronted with a slap on the hand from the SEC.
