I called my congressman today, and actually got someone on the phone. I have found that it is effective if you go on long enough, irritating the shit out of them, it'll ultimately make news in their office.

I had this happen with my former senator once, where I kept his assistant on the phone for almost an hour in a rant. The next day Rush Limbaugh mentioned that he had heard from someone at the senator's office who told him people were irate and furious.

I felt I had done my job. I don't remember the issue, but senators were being flooded with calls, and I heard my senator (David H. Pryor) on Nightline the night before, say, "We get thousands of calls but I've never heard of a senator changing his mind on an issue based on calls and letters." Well, I tried.
