I agree with your analysis of DEC/Compaq merger (or buyout). It does remind me of when HP bought Apollo....The results were not good yet they bought for almost identical reasons. Well, HP was already in the workstation business so it should have gone smoother. This "merger" of cultures will be even more difficult. I don't think I'd want to own Compaq now as it tries to digest DEC, but that is my humble opinion and subject to change. 8) My worry is that DEC is a boat anchor bringing down Compaq's short term numbers.
