Michael, no need to hit the rant "off" button as far as I'm concerned. A while back I tried to put aside my Ericy bias (no easy task), and figure out what game they were playing. I couldn't then and can't now. Senior management of companies Ericy's size just can't roll the dice when the future of the whole show might be at stake--they HAVE TO HEDGE THEIR BETS. To do otherwise is simply irresponsible. I doubt MOT (another company low on my personal hit parade) had a smile on their face when they wrote the Q a check to "buy" into CDMA, but they could not afford not to. (And by the way, I thought your pricing approach to early comers, middle comers, and late comers hit the nail right on the head.) My only criticism of your rant is that I am not sure that pricing an IS95 license to Ericy "up the bazoo" is high enough. :) In any event, your post tends to confirm my hunch that this is show time for the Q and that it might well unfold in the context of Ericy. If those boys fold their tent, unload a ton of kronor all over San Diego, and drop the litigation, the Q's price is gonna look like Globalstar this Thursday AM (please god). It is also big time important because it would mean we're going to Disneyland, I mean Europe, which is where Surfer Mike thinks we need to be. Enough of this Congo stuff: my daughter needs a Q phone in Seville! (Imagine my angst when each week, I communicate with her through GSM--have to wash out my handset with soap after the chat. Yecch!) Great post, Michael. Mike Doyle |
