That is what I am learning about Texas, a third world state, but not unlike most of the red states.
They don't understand, or don't care about modern social planning as regards the health and welfare of the society.
And probably don't care! Let the people suffer is their motto. Most red states are so cold blooded they would not even expand free to almost free Medicaid to help the poor in their states get health care-- a real bunch of assholes.
I worked for the Department of Health and Social services, Division of Public Health for 20 years, essentially as a planner; and I was involved in the Democratic party for over 40 years.
Even though Alaska is a deep red state, ironically its two most important social events, the writing of the constitution and the formation of it social services was accomplished by very progressive Democrats.
The constitution was written by giants like Earnest Greuning (one of only two senators to vote against the Viet Nam war-the other being Oregon senator Wyane Morse) , Bob Bartlett and Bill Egan, and the social structure, advanced by the Ad Hoc Democrats during a short period in the 70's, who managed to put 25% of the oil revenue in a "permanent fund" (sovereign wealth fund) and put it in the constitution so no one can touch the principle.
I was one of the Ad Hoc Democrats and wrote the state plan for the offices, of EMS and Alcohol and drug abuse, which sort of set them in stone as I included lots of advisory councils that gave the programs the political clout to stave of efforts by Republicans to defund them.
As a result, Alaska has a very progressive constitution and social services system and 100 billion dollars in their permanent fund, the revenues which are able to fund the social services. |
