Archer,
Whatever spin REDB puts on "data marts", this (lower) end of the data warehousing industry is characterized by smaller warehouses for departments (e.g., marketing), where the data sizes are typically 20GB, and very rarely as high as 50GB. These are not extreme cases, and the outer-edge performance problems don't arise like they do with 500GB-terabyte files. An even bigger problem is that Microsoft is pushing into the data marts domain. Naturally, they have a large following of application developers - Brio, Bus. Objects, Cognos, etc. REDB, or for that matter, SYBS, IFMX and even ORCL are going have a hard time standing up to the empire.
So REDB has to find opportunities that leverage their strengths, which means high-end, high-performance apps. If IFMX, SYBS, etc. have caught up, then what does REDB have? |
