Which is why the United States is not a Democracy... but a Republic. Democracy... is mob rule... and not a particularly good idea. People are easily manipulated, too, of course, which makes Democracy dangerous. Democracy... within limits that prevent excess... has the advantage of providing limits in the degree to which policy can conflict with obvious shared interest... again, only in the degree that people can be bothered to avoid being misled... which mostly they are no longer capable of, or have become apathetic and lazy to a degree that Democracy is less about checks and balances, and more about giving power to the most convincing liar offering the people MORE of something for nothing... That doesn't work, of course, in the long term... As we are about to find out... again...
