Pkrbkr, I'm actually in agreement with you there.

That's why I could accept voting for the president via national popular vote, IF (and only if) we returned back to a system where the federal government only fulfilled its originally intended role.

Unfortunately, the power of the federal government continues to creep up. That's why, in our current circumstances, with public attitudes toward government the way they are, I cannot support eliminating the Electoral College.

Instead, I'll continue to support it as a quirky system that is meant to keep state sovereignty relevant.
