[NEWS] 3Com/US Robotics/Dell turn into Tight-wads!!!

Feb. 03, 1998 12:20pm

It was reported today that Mr. Scrapps got the royal poking when he purchased a Dell PC with a 3Com/USR 56K Voice-modem.

Even though there is an additional charge for this modem (it is sold as an upgrade from the standard Win-modem) get this...it ships with no software!! Which they fail to mention when you are purchasing the thing. It will work as a fax using the Win95 Word97 software and as a modem using the Win95 software...BUT NOT as a voice modem...unless of course you buy additional software for that.

When Mr. Scrapps called and spoke to a sales supervisor at Dell he was told...now get this one...that he did not ask the proper questions!!! She went on to say that it would do everything Mr. Scrapps had asked the sales person...but Mr. Scrapps had failed to ask if additional software was required! Oh wasn't that silly of Mr. Scrapps!! He failed to give the sales staff the 3rd degree! The Dell supervisor went on to say it was USR's fault BECAUSE they weren't shipping any software with the OEM voice modems.

Mr. Scrapps was heard mumbling about no lightning protection, no software effing door stops...ZOOM ZOOM. And how he trusts used car salemen more!

He also didn't want to talk about how he was told that his HP 5p scanner would work fine with the new Dell PC...which turns out to be true....IF he yanks out the sound card or the voice modem so he can install the scanner card in one of the slots. Or that he was told he could send the internal modem back and go buy an exterior one to free up the slot. He said "it sure is funny how they know so much after they get your money!"
