The greatest modern watchmaker, George Daniels invented the co-axial escapement which is not only the single greatest improvement in mechanical timekeeping of the 20th century but arguably the greatest achievement going back to Breguet. He was initially eschewed by the watch industry and later adopted by the chairman of Swatch Group and incorporated into the Omega brand. This is a very reasonably priced book with a few lovely color photographs authored by the master himself, it's a how to book. amazon.com The Daniels tradition carries on with watchmaker Roger Smith, also on the Isle of Man, where they have a crazy motorcycle race every year around this time but it was cancelled this year.
