Deal Reached on January 6 Commission

House Homeland Security Chair Bennie Thompson (D-MS) announced that he’s reached a deal with Republicans over an independent commission to investigate the January 6 insurrection.

There will be 10 people on the commission, five appointed by Democrats and five appointed by Republicans.
Commission members can’t be in government and must have experience in law enforcement, civil liberties and intelligence.
The panel will have subpoena power.
It will be disbanded at the end of the year.

This is interesting: House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy says he did not sign off on the commission.
