I think all gold mining should be banned, and only remedial processing of gold tailings allowed, to be encouraged, to remove arsenic and other toxins from the tails, and return to nature only silica, by also removing the gold impurities in the tailings. Further, such remedial ops ought to be subsidized by national governments, to clean the environment and retrain communities.

And, only certified companies with a dozen years of tailings operations allowed to engage.

DRD comes to mind.

Once tails exhausted, all field operations involving gold to cease, and only above ground reprocessing allowed, and all reprocessing output should be tokenized.

There should be a premium paid for free- / untokenised gold, to discourage criminal and pre-criminal activities.
