I have a few red-tailed hawk nests. Been in the same places for years. I'm not sure if it's the same parents or multiple generations. I'm always amazed at how much they eat. I've caught them getting the occasional squirrel and even black snakes but they mostly get field mice/rats. I sit on my porch like right now and watch them dive down every few minutes all day long. They seem successful about 1/5.
My owls are scary. When they fly by, you don't hear anything. Just a hulking presence cruising by.
Unfortunately, the eagles don't stick around for the summer. We get bald and golden eagles from late December until around March but then they vanish.
This is the time of year the regular birds pass through. I had some orioles and grosbeaks hang around the feeder last week but they're gone now. The purple martins are starting to move in but the starlings and sparrows are trying to take over so I'm alternating trading and picking them off with pellet gun or 22 depending on range. LOL
EDIT - Believe it or not, vultures are fun to watch too. I have about a dozen turkey vultures most of the time. Some nest in my old 200 year old barn and sheep pen. They're huge and if you get too close to the nests, the baby's hiss.
Grey heron is flying over right now.
