Make sure to go light on the soap and baking soda. Also, the best time to spray is in cool weather (early morning or late evening) so that it will not steam your leaves.

While we are on the subject of gardening, I use an inverted-L method for grafting fruit trees. The most challenging part is properly peeling back the bark from the cambria. I wrap a soaked paper towel around the target area and leave it for a couple of hours. This softens the bark and allows me to easily peel it back. Once the incision is made, I use a super thin filleting knife to go behind the bark. This way I won't be damaging the cambria (or the scion) when I pushing the scion under the bark. To my knowledge nobody has discovered this technique.
