As a ex-DG'r I couldn't disagree more. Dell is mail order; DG is larger systems, longer sales cycles.

The only similarity is that they are basically in the box moving business.

Consulting / Professional services isn't in Dell's book at all; and isn't really a big strength of DG's. DG also OEM's some of their low end servers from people like INTEL and Gateway/ALR. Hmnn.

I would say that if Compaq wanted Digital for the high end services and sales people targetted at the largest enterprises, then they choice wisely - at least they were the best available choice.

DG has some excellent technology, but I don't think in these cutthroat commodity days that excellent technology is all that is needed. And the cultures are pretty different between them and DELL.

Just my opinion...
