Hm, so my objections to what I now know to be "flat adverbs" are not correct. While such as "act fast" is acceptable, the preferred form for the same meaning remains "act quickly".

The older I get, the more I understand how easily rules of all sorts become guidelines, lending confusion to us of the old schools.

Is this progress? [Rhetorical question.]
