We're used to looking at a left-right continuum, liberal vs conservative. With conservatism out of favor, replaced by totalitarianism, then we have what? Is it still a continuum rather than two separate Ven circles? If one end of a continuum is totalitarianism, what's the label for the other end? Could be liberal or libertarian. Could be democracy. Libertarian is a valid antonym for totalitarian, perhaps the most apt, but it's awkward given that Trumpsters seem to think that they're on the side of liberty. In all cases, this continuum is not as broad, rich, inclusive as liberal vs conservative, which have many aspects. Totalitarianism is only about liberty. It's about who makes the decisions, not the substance of the decisions.
OTOH, when we're talking totalitarianism, that has only one dimension--power. It makes everything else moot.
