The whole left-right continuum doesn't really work, though. You need at least two axes. My first introduction to that was Jerry Pournelle's version which he apparently developed for his PhD thesis in the 1960s. Of course, the idea was not unique with him, just his chosen axes.

A problem with the Trumpsters is that they ditch rationalism. So there isn't a coherent philosophy, just a collection of awful spasms. Words mean different things when the context changes. They are all for individual liberty,unless they don't agree with it. Bakers should have the right to refuse to make a cake for a gay wedding, but a store can't refuse service to someone who won't wear a mask. To take only one example. I guess it is American Exceptionalism taken to extremes. Too bad they can't model Walt Whitman and contain multitudes...
