Once again, where would Intel's stock be with an extra $80Billion in profits (before tax) if they priced the chips $1000 higher (total 80M X $1000 in extra profits). You're only limited by your imagination (and the elasticity of demand). How long before AMD had reaped enough profits, AMD stock high enough to attract and keep good talent till it became a real threat. IMHO, the Apple example appears to have been lost on you. Remember those running Intel know this game well as they've played it numerous times before. AMD has been there almost as long as Intel and it is not going to go out of business anytime soon, it still has not closed the gap between Intel and itself. If anything, AMDs window of opportunity is closing fast and next year is going to be much more difficult than this,
