I am with you on Intel.

The Klamath is the existing line of PII processors. The PII 333 is the first Deschutes as it is made with the 0.25 micron micro processor technology. It runs cooler than its sisters. I hope it will drop enough in price before I build my machine. I am not wild about purchasing a CPU that runs hot. The Merced is predicted for late 1999 or early 2000 with 64 bit technology. You will probably get the tail end of the Deschutes as the Merced will be rather expensive.

I have a small position in Intel. I believe that they will maintain a leadership position for many years to come.

I believe however that they do an injustice to their customers and to themselves. I believe they can /do make a better processor than the competition. They have tremendous resources. They should give the consumers open architecture on the motherboard, free up the competition and challenge someone to make a better processor. Instead they lead us toward sub $1000 PC's. I have several old PC's that I would gladly give to family members for pocket change. If this were an option they would spend $$$'s on new Intel processors, motherboards etc. Also video cards, RAM from the support companies. These old computers will go into the attic and then the trash and many will do without. I will buy 64MB RAM for my new machine even though I would prefer and can afford 128MB or more. Why? Because I don't trust Intel to allow me to make use of my RAM in my next computer.

Enough of my ranting

Thanks for you input
