The article about the Compaq/DEC merger was interesting...
I am a long-time investor in SUNW (2/3 of my IRA is invested in SUNW)
but about a month ago I bought some CPQ. I think it is an undeniable fact that PCs and NT will take a large share of the market and its profits in the coming years. I have no intention of selling my SUN -- I think it will continue to do very well in the high end server and storage market. But I am more interested in making money in the
stock market than moaning about the Microsoft-SUN wars...

I became interested in CPQ (pre-DEC merger) when I noticed that the
financials for CPQ and SUNW were very similar -- both had P/E ~24,
Price/Sales ~2, profit margins ~ 7%. So, why not own both?
The Digital take-over happened only weeks after my purchase, and
I am not sure what the short-term (2 year) effect will be... but
I am cautiously optimistic that this is a good long term play.
