I think most primitive people pretty much all engage in brutal practices based on god and anthropologists, only knows what, spirits and primitive preconceptions :)>, e.g. look at how so many countries brutalize females with genital mutilation and see them as inferior, or forcing young girls to marry older men, selling or trading females, or like in Burma thinking women are naturally evil, and the rituals males need to go through.
In New Guinea they force vines down a boys throat into the stomach, make them jump off high towers. And the females are totally subjugated with inferior food and their male children taken away from that at age five or something like that.
In Africa female and the middle east, genital mutilation is common, as is arranged marriages, which is common throughout the world. In Africa, in some tribes girls allow the boys to whip them and the more whipping they can stand the higher their status. The women all have scares on their backs.
In China they broke little girls feet and bond them so they could not walk. This was supposed to increase the males sexual pleasure somehow.
One book I read, I think by Margaret Atwood, tells the story of women in a middle east country, Iran I think?, where when a woman marries she stays in a home forever, and the father gives the man a stick to beat her with (no larger than ones arm), and the men live on one half, and the women on the other, and the men go over to the women's side just for sex.
Atwood writes a lot about female abuse around the world. Modern countries have laws against it.
The broad humanity we see today is simply the result of our getting more educated.
The countries with vibrant democracies throughout the world are also generally the most educated and the most humane e.g. Canada and the Nordic countries, Iceland, New Zealand, and western Europe, with countries like Japan, South Korea and Taiwan on their heels.

I've long thought the root reason is its a desert. I think people who live in deserts develop barbaric religions.
Ironically, the whole reason the middle east is behind the rest of the civilize world with regard to humanity, and so barbaric, and such a horrible place politically is because of its strong religion. |
