I'm afraid it really is privilege. It is a privilege to walk into a store and not be followed. It is a privilege not to be stopped by the cops just because you are in a nice neighborhood driving a nice car. It is a privilege to be treated well. Yes, it would be SUPER nice if nice treatment were the norm- but privilege is a function of skin color and how wealthy people perceive you to be. Which is odd- because who needs to be treated well more than people who are down and out?

To suggest white people, especially affluent ones, are not exceptionally privileged is the height of privilege. White privilege is not a taunt. It is real. I accept, for example, my incredible privilege- and from that reality I can move on to 1. being more understanding of people who do not have privilege and 2. doing something to ameliorate the situation of unfair privilege in our society. A taunt would be something one did not apply to oneself- unless one is very weird.
