Changing topics a bit, the world is adapting to transgender far faster than the US.
In India, the Supreme Court in April 2014 recognized hijras, transgender people, eunuchs, and intersex people as a ' third gender' in law. [1] [15] [16] Nepal, Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh have all legally accepted the existence of a third gender, with India, Pakistan and Nepal including an option for them on passports and certain official documents. [17]
Transgender was far harder for me to understand until I did some heavy duty research. Now, it's not a big deal.
After I read the world here above, I had to do more research. The Hijra is usually done by an elder (not a doctor) who cuts the penis off while the person is awake. This is a different topic since the former male person chose to become a Hijra and you're talking about mostly forced acts. The Hijra can remove the scrotum also but some don't. My point is, sometimes things are not what they appear. Culture shock sometimes makes us see things as being abhorrent when it's normal to them.
My personal belief is cutting off body parts and mutilation requires consent, including circumcision. |
