" An ordinary White person being assumed by the staff to be an customer rather than a thief cannot be said to be privileged, merely ordinary."
That is kind of the definition of privilege. That you get to go through life thinking your sweet life is "ordinary" when it is anything but for people of color. Having taught year after year and met hundreds of students who are people of color and hearing their stories, I know my story is anything but ordinary for them. I guess you could call that "white ordinary but privileged when compared to anyone else"- but that's kind of long.
