I remember this from our previous discussions - you tend to argue about words, not about substance.

Words represent things and concepts. When I argue about words I am arguing about the concept behind the word where the two are ill defined or mismatched. The word is just the vehicle, the proxy, for the concept.

You keep forgetting that privilege is relative and defined in comparison.

I realize that. There are a lot of words that are inherently relevant and exist in a continuum like small, medium, large. And context matters. A small planet is bigger than large dog. Context provides an anchor or a range.

Not so long ago privilege in the context of society applied to the independently wealthy or the titled or at least people with clout and high level contacts. Maybe you could stretch it down to the country club set. But extending it to some redneck who is trying to make it as a day laborer because the redneck has a better shot at a few bucks than the Black guy trying for the same job is torturing the concept. Bear in mind that that said lowly Black guy looks privileged to half the world. How's that for privileged?

And IMO ineffective at best and counter-productive at worst. That redneck is not going to get the intended message. He's just going to get his back up.

"White privilege" may not be quite as bad as "defund the police" but IMO it's right up there.

We may stay with our definitions

Of course, the usage is in play now regardless of what I think about it. My first post on this subject simply stated my "preference" for usage and the reasoning behind it. That was in contrast to the bald assertion, "I'm afraid it really is privilege. " To each his own.I will avoid it when in thoughtful mode and use it only as a jab. Others will
