LIMERICK, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 4, 1998-- Sedona(TM) GeoServices Inc., a subsidiary of Scangraphics(R) Inc. (NASDAQ: SCNG - news), announced Wednesday that the company's flagship geospatial software product, Sedona DMTool(TM), has received an extremely favorable review from the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) Pathfinder 98 evaluation program.

NIMA recognized Sedona DMTool as a comprehensive set of integrated computer software which provides extensive mapping, imaging, image processing and database capabilities. Sedona DMTool is among one of nine products selected from a total of 120 evaluated tools to be inserted into operational assessment environments for further assessment to identify tools for widespread deployment.

Of the four areas accessed, Sedona DMTool received the highest possible ratings in the following three areas: for human-computer interface, government and commercial data formats and government and commercial standards. To support the Pathfinder operational assessments, Sedona GeoServices will work with NIMA to provide integration, training, and maintenance at each installation site.

NIMA's Pathfinder program seeks to identify and evaluate optimum technologies to assist imagery and geospatial information analysts in performing their duties. Pathfinder 98 focused on providing specific recommendations for geospatial tools that integrate rapid technological developments to serve imagery, imagery intelligence, and geospatial information customers better.

Laurence L. Osterwise, President and CEO of Scangraphics, said, ''We are very pleased and encouraged with the results of the Pathfinder 98 assessments. We have long known that we have an outstanding product in Sedona DMTool and have worked hard to get that message out to the industry.

''We now expect that the exceptional rating of Sedona DMTool, along with visibility provided by the Pathfinder program will significantly enhance Sedona GeoServices' marketing and sales efforts within the defense and intelligence communities.''
