Pagemart Selects Glenayre For Buildout Of Nationwide Two-Way Paging System CHARLOTTE, N.C., Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- PageMart Wireless has selected Glenayre to be the primary supplier for the multi-phased deployment of a nationwide, two-way narrowband PCS (N-PCS) paging system. The two companies have entered multi-year volume purchase agreements for the majority buildout of the ReFLEX25-based system and for the supply of subscriber devices. Glenayre's Wireless Messaging Group (WMG) will provide the infrastructure to add the N-PCS advanced messaging capabilities to PageMart's one-way network, and Glenayre's Wireless Access Group will provide its recently introduced AccessMate advanced messaging device.
Construction of PageMart's NPCS network is underway is 16 markets, and the company expects to market advanced messaging services nationwide by year's end. In the second quarter, PageMart will initiate advanced messaging services on a city-by-city basis as it constructs the nationwide network.
''We're committed to bringing PageMart's network to commercial launch quickly and economically,'' said Jim Marion, president of Glenayre's Wireless Messaging Group. ''The key to our success with PageMart is a migration solution based on their current GL-C2000 control system that enables a simple ReFLEX overlay on an existing FLEX network.''
''We've partnered with Glenayre because we have full confidence in their ability to deliver a complete system infrastructure solution,'' said N. Ross Buckenham, president of PageMart Wireless. ''By reusing and upgrading our existing FLEX transmitter infrastructure, PageMart's goal is to implement a nationwide ReFLEX footprint with all the built-in reliability and coverage our customers are currently used to. We continue to observe a fundamental migration to high-capacity word messaging and have selected the AccessMate as one of the devices to be offered on the new ReFLEX network.''
''We are excited that PageMart has selected the AccessMate as one of its initial subscriber devices,'' said Greg Reyes, president of Glenayre's Wireless Access Group. ''We believe that the AccessMate's unprecedented flexibility will allow PageMart to offer a range of services on a single platform.''
Glenayre's migration solution is the most cost-effective option for service providers entering the two-way market. Glenayre first demonstrated its migration solution in June 1997 when it achieved an industry first by transmitting both one-way and two-way paging messages concurrently on the same infrastructure during ReFLEX testing with PageMart.
Glenayre's ReFLEX system consists of one-way paging components such as the GL3000 Wireless Messaging Switch (utilizing Glenayre's WMtp protocol), GL-C2010 Controller and GL-T8500/8501 900 MHz transmitters. Two-way functionality is achieved with the addition of the GL3100 RF Director and GL-R9000 Receivers.
The AccessMate, introduced in September 1997, is an alphanumeric text pager capable of supporting a broad range of functionality ranging from registration only to guaranteed message delivery to transmitting of preprogrammed messages. It operates over the ReFLEX paging protocol. The AccessMate is the world's first ''no compromises'' pager and is currently the smallest advanced messaging device on the market. It is the size of today's state-of-the-art, one-way alphanumeric pager but provides unprecedented functionality.
